Holistic Care Questions

Do you help treat acute and chronic pain?

Of course.  It doesn't matter how long that you have been in pain, either.   If your pain is NOT related to a disease or an organ, it is highly likely that it is due to tight muscles, but not like how most people think about tight muscles).    Your body takes time to heal, longer if it there is muscle injury, but it will get a lot better.

How should I prepare for my first treatment?

The only thing that you have to do before your first appointment is to complete the intake form. Regarding what to wear, you can get a massage with as much or as little clothing that you are comfortable with, less is best but your comfort and security are a priority.  If you have never had a massage before, you will be covered by a sheet the entire time and I will only expose the area that I am working, which is what I'd see on a woman wearing a one-piece bathing suit.

What should I expect from my first session?

The No-Pain Zone Most of the time when people have been in pain, going to a doctor might be painful, going to a chiropractor is definitely painful, and going to a traditional massage therapist for a Deep Tissue Massage is usually painful. Therefore, anticipate it will be your most painful experience, and then accept that you'll be woefully disappointed.  If you're in pain, then adding pain won't get you out of pain.  It's not like some grammatical double negative rule.  Speaking of rules, I'm golden. I don't want to be in pain, and I don't want to put you in pain.  Therefore, no metal scraping thing, no cupping and no Trigger Point work. Just wonderful muscle massaging and limb stretching.  Think of your muscles like pizza dough. Knead it, stretch it, and it remains, but don't knead or warm it up, and it returns to its shortened position.

ONLY PAY FOR WHAT YOU NEED! Expect a full hour (or 90 minutes) on the table. However, if you arrive late, or don't complete the intake form ahead of time, or are talking on the phone with someone, that will be deducted from your table time. So, go to the bathroom before coming into the room. Expect to receive a lot of information about your musculoskeletal system.  After all, that is what I know all about, and I cannot keep a secret.

EXPECT THE FUN NEVER ENDS!  You'll be given some stretches and muscle toning exercises specific to your issue.  Remember, it's a relay race, not a marathon. You will get way better in a shorter period of time if you follow my suggestions.

Will I hurt during, following or the next day?

Depending upon the extent of pain that you come in with, duration of pain problem, and your age, you might feel pain the next day. I liken

your muscle fiber to a worm. The segmented

body of the worm resemble sensory markers within our muscles called proprioceptors.   When our muscles are overstretched, they complain, by sending pain signals to the brain.  The brain is told that if it continues to overstretch the muscle, injury will occur. The treatments involve massaging and stretching. While it doesn't hurt when I stretch you, I am tricking those stretch receptors to not fire, so by the next day, they may complain.  Many people report that they feel like they had a workout the day before, this tends to go away as the day progresses.

IT'S NOT A SPRINT!  I promise to put you into anatomical position before you leave my office.  You have to promise that you will work to stay there between sessions.

How many sessions will it take before I am feeling better?

Are you average?  On average, people begin to feel better almost right away.  They notice that they feel more balanced, looser, with less pain and greater ROM! However, when you lever, you are going back to those situations (which over time) were what brought you here to this site. So, it's two to three steps forward and one step back.  After the second treatment (within a few days) it will be three to five steps forward, one step back.  While I cannot make many guarantees, I am confident that you will get better with my treatments and in less time than it takes for other forms of treatment.

Are Orthopedic Massages expensive?
Are they covered by insurance?

I totally get that money is tight, that an hour massage is expensive, and you should not have to pay for treatment that may not help.  However, you are not paying for "a massage", you are bringing an end to your pain, your sleep difficulties, and

your lifestyle changes.  No-fault insurance pays for massage, but the catch is that you have to get into a car accident first. That's a heavier price to pay.  Instead, you can use your HSA account.  Once you receive a message, you can take advantage of my generous referral program, a 20/10 discount. $20 for you and $10 for them. I am so confident that my treatment will work for every pain tingling and numbness condition that I take cash, check, credit and debit cards.  If you have a gift card that I would use, I'll credit the cash value of it.
